The Journey

Alright people! As promised here is the sequel to "It's Not Over" Bekka and I have actually already completed writing this story, so hopefully the updates will be fairly frequent.

Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy this story as much as you enjoyed the other one! :D

Please, once you read, leave a review telling me if you liked this chapter or not! :)

~*~*~*~

Chester spent many countless months finding and asking the elder vampires that he came across.  But every lead only turned to be a dead end when he tried to follow it through.  He was starting to think that this was an impossible task when he came upon a vampire elder, a few years later, living with a small coven of vampires who did not pray on the humans that they lived beside, rather they fed upon the abundant wild life that existed in the forest around their home.

He knocked on the door to the old mansion, gazing up at the mansion.  It was far bigger then the one he and Mike had shared those many years ago.  Though the time seemed to just run together for the poor vampire, he knew that it had to have been at least four years since he had started on this journey, possibly more.

He was taken out of his day dream when the door opened, reviling a rather attractive redhead girl with green, slitted eyes.  They reminded Chester of a wild beast.

The girl smiled, fangs flashing in the moonlight, "Hello there traveler, what brings you to this coven? You must not be from around here, you are dressed strangely and your eyes...are a very peculiar shade of brown."

Chester shrugged and chewed at his lip, "Well actually, I'm on a quest..I have been for quite some time actually.  Is there anyway that I could seek audience with your elder?"

The girl nodded and opened the door wider saying with a wink, "I'm sure he could find time in his schedule for a sexy thing like you."

Although he was slightly uncomfortable with the flirting, Chester knew that this could be his only chance to find what he was looking for.

"Thank you," he said softly and followed the other vampire into the mansion.

~*~*~*~

It had been four year, nine months and twelve days since Michael Shinoda had last seen his love and not a day went by he didn't think of him. At almost 28 years old Michael still traveled with the strolling players and venders. He had long since rid himself of the weapons which once accompanied him everywhere and his leather coat was currently retired in a bag he would keep in old Tom's cart.

The group was moving town again, planning on bringing their spices, trading and street entertainment along with them to the next village. Currently it was dark and the troupe was camped about eight miles from the closest towns land. Mike was trying to sleep in his tent. He could hear talking outside from another tent.

"What happened then mama?"

"The vampire, consuming all his strength leapt on front of the hunter he loved and took the silver bullet for him."

"Did he die?"

"Well in body yes but his spirit lives on in the heart of the hunter." Mike sighed and turned under his thin blanket. Even after so long the story had only grown in fame and he resented how people changed it. It was not a foolish fairy tale, it was a true story, his story.

Mike had spent years trying all he could to find a way for him and Chester to be able to live happily ever after but he found nothing. there was the option of becoming a vampire himself but he was too afraid to go along with that. He was such a coward.

'Chester probably doesn't even remember me anyway.' Mike thought to himself, closing his eyes as the tent flap opened and a young male of twenty one creeped in.

"Michael?" Daniel whispered, shaking him. "Please Michael wake up."

"I was never a sleep dammit!"

"Oh sorry.." The youth leaned back as Mike looked over his shoulder.

"What is it Daniel?"

"I did it."

"Did what?"

"Went hunting. I killed a fox." The youth was grinning but Mike turned back in his makeshift bed and sighed.

"And you think that's something to be proud of do you?" Mike growled. Murder, no matter what form was not ok in Mike's books.

"A little hypocritical considering it will probably be your meal tomorrow Michael." Mike sighed but said nothing. "Fine...don't be happy for me then."

"I'm sorry Daniel...it's great you went hunting."

"Thank you!" The youth smiled but noticed Mike's off mood. "Michael? Are you ok?"

"I'm fine."

"Is it the dreams again?" Mike sat up and glared.

"What dreams?"

"Well I hear you at night. You moan in your sleep." Mike cocked an eyebrow.

"Like...nightmares?" Daniel blushed.

"Well no...sometimes I actually wondered if there was a woman in here...you know...with the noises you were making." Mike's cheeks burned but the youth couldn't see that in the dark.

"I think it's time you left daniel." The male frowned.

"Well I guess it wouldn't be a woman in your tent." Mike froze, Daniel shouldn't know details like that. He had never told anyone here.

"What do you mean?"

"Ohh Chester! Hold me Chester! Stay with me Chester! Never stop Chester! Oh Chester I love you so much!" The youth laughed and made kissy faces and Mike suddenly saw him for how immature he was.

"Get out right now Daniel! Get out of my tent!" Daniel's eyes widened but he did as commanded as Mike collapsed back. "Fuck!" He growled to himself. He never realized the dreams became so vocal. What if he the younger children had heard? "fuck!" He muttered into the mattress, knowing he couldn't sleep tonight.

~*~*~*~

Chester followed the girl further into the mansion, noticing the curious looks that the other vampires that lived there were giving him.  He now knew why the girl thought his eyes were a strange color, everyone here seemed to have bright blue or green eyes.  Perhaps it was the diet of animal blood that did it, but he did not really know the cause.  He also noticed that the woman were dressed in tight black clothing, accenting all their curves.  Most males would find this display as sensual or attractive, but Chester didn't really give any of them a second glance.  There was only one thing on his mind and that was to find a way to be with Mike.

"Stay here," the girl said, "I will ask him if he wishes to see you now."  Chester nodded and watched the girl walk into the room.  He felt slightly uneasy standing here in the middle of a room full of vampires he did not know.  As he glanced about, waiting for the girl to return, he noticed that most of the vampires that existed here in this mansion were female. Chester thought that that was rather weird but he knew that some covens often only had one male vampire, who was more often then not the leader of the clan.

Chester really didn't like the looks that the females were giving him, they were staring at him like he was some kind of meat on display.  He started to shift around and tried not to notice the looks he was receiving.  Just when he thought he couldn't stand it any longer, the girl from before came out of the room and smiled at him.

"The elder is busy at the moment, but said he will see you tomorrow, if that is alright."

"I don't mind, I'm not really in much of a hurry," Chester lied smoothly.

"Alright, come with me, the elder wants me to show you to the room you shall be staying in until he is ready to see you," the girl said with a smile, then lead him away from the room.

The females all groaned in disappointment when the beautiful male left.

~*~*~*~

The room Chester had been lead to was rather..medieval looking.  It was completely black with a four poster bed on one side, and the only source of light were a few scattered candles here and there.

"I hope you like this room, it used to belong to the elders son, but..he was killed by a hunter years ago, and it has not been used since," the girl said, glancing about.

"The elders son was killed? So he does not have a heir then?"

"No he does not," she said with a sigh, "he was the only male here besides the elder."

"I was going to ask about that, but before we get into that discussion, tell me, what is your name?"

"Lana," the girl said with a smile.

"I am Chester."

"Chester..I have always liked that name.  Tell me, what is it you wish to learn?"

"Anything...everything," Chester said with a smile, "you could probably start out why there is only one male in the entire coven."

"That is a very long tale," Lana said while sitting down on one of the many leather couches.

"I have a long time," Chester said with a grin.

"Very well.."

~*~*~*~

Mike was woken by the sounds of life outside his tent. It was morning and the troup was moving on again, hoping to find business in the next town. Mike groaned, unwilling to actually get up until he sensed he was not alone in the tent.

"Daniel!" Mike exclaimed, jumping slightly when he saw the youth sitting by his feet. Daniel looked like he hadn't slept at all.

"Michael I felt so bad about last night!" The youth confessed, unable to look at him. "I wanted to apologize if I offended you!" Mike sighed.

"You didn't offend me." He moaned, extending his arms. Daniel crawled in for a hug, letting him know it was water under the bridge.

"About you..." daniel whispered. "Being gay...I didn't know because of you talking..." Mike looked down at him. "I knew because I felt it, in my heart." Mike didn't react as the younger man leaned forward, kissing his lips lightly. He actually kissed back, introducing no tongue. there was no denying the smile on Daniel's lips after that small but sweet embrace. "Wow." He breathed. Mike didn't reply and the youth took his hands. "Five years ago when you came here...I just knew...I just did. I've loved you ever since...I used to...watch you sleep but you'd mutter."

Mike paused, not looking at the youngster. He knew how it felt to be in love. he recalled the times he spent, unable to sleep just gazing at Chester. Daniel was smiling as he leaned in for another kiss. Mike granted him it but sighed.

"No Daniel." The youth stopped. "We can't."

"W-why?"

"You're too young."

"And that matters?"

"And I love someone else." Daniel moved away, frowning.

"Let me guess. Chester?" Mike nodded as a pang of jealously seeped into Daniel.

"But Mike... I could make you so happy!" He kissed his cheek. "I could love you like you deserve to be loved."

"But I don't love you Daniel. You're 21, too young to love."

"But why did you kiss me?" Mike paused, unwilling to answer. Not because he was afraid of the reply but because he didn't want to hurt the child. He tried to seek comfort in Daniel's lips, comfort he only now realized he could find with the male he loved the most. Chester.

"C'mon Daniel." Mike stood up, hearing hoofs outside as the horses began to move. "We have to leave." He exited the tent but Daniel remained, fighting tears from his eyes.

Just as Lana was about to launch into the story, there was a knock at the door.

"It seems like we'll have to talk about this subject later Chester," she said with an apologetic smile, then got up to answer the door.

She opened the door and young girl walked into the room.

"Miss Lana, the elder says he wishes to speak with you privately for awhile," the girl said.

"Of course, tell him I'll be there right away."

The girl nodded, and walked off.

"She seems awful young, was she turned when she was a child?"

"Yes, the elder found her in the forest, she was attacked by the wolves and left for dead, he brought her back and saved her life."

"Ah..alright I see."

Lana smiled then left.

Chester waited until the door was closed before he collapsed on the bed with a sigh.  His mind drifted off, as it often did when he was alone to his thoughts, to what Mike could be doing right now.  Had he forgotten Chester? Had he moved on with another human? Or was he thinking of Chester too?Was this whole thing a big waste of time? Could he possibly be changed back to what he hadn't been for a very long time?

He don't want to think about what could happen if he was unable to become human, he refused to go down that path until he was sure that it was an impassible task.

He sighed and sat up.  He really didn't know what to do right now..deciding that the best thing to do right now would be to just sleep and wake up later.  Maybe the future would look brighter after a good rest.

He laid back down and pulled the blankets up. After settling down he closed his eyes and fell asleep rather quickly.

~*~*~*~

Chester woke up a few hours later and glanced at the bedside table.  Someone had come during the time he had been sleeping and left a goblet of blood.  His stomach grumbled, he didn't realize how hungry he was until he saw the blood.  He reached for it and grabbed the cup, raising it to his lips and taking a small sip.  The thick liquid rolled down his throat and be let out a soft moan.  It really had been awhile since he had had anything to drink that didn't come from a stray cat.

He finished off the blood in a few gulps and set the glass down.  Chester didn't know what time it was because there was no clock but he could guess by the sounds coming from downstairs it was nighttime again.  So he had slept longer then he had meant to.  It worried him slightly but he shrugged it off and got out of bed, deicing to check what everyone was up to in the mansion.

Chester walked down the stairs and looked at the women who were all gathered around a single, very long, table.  Everyone fell silent when he stepped into the room.

"Don't stop on my account," he said, "I'm just passing through."

One of the women, a skinny blond with shocking blue eyes got up and walked over to him.

"Welcome! I want to be the first to say congratulations," she said with a grin.

"For what?" Chester asked with a frown.

"Oh..you didn't hear? The elder is talking about letting you stay here, as his heir."

"..What?"

~*~*~*~

The town the troup came to was quite small. A population of about 2000. It was a sleepy village with inhabitants hungry for entertainment which the travelers were only too happy to provide. Mike mumbled as he tried to set up his tent in the field they all camped in. Tom approached him.

"You ok Mike?" He asked, offering his hand in setting up the shelter. Mike smiled but sighed, unable to lie.

"I just...I didn't sleep well...FUCK!" The tent collapsed again and Mike kicked the fabric, tears clinging to his eyes unwillingly. Tom sighed, picking up one of the poles.

"Well who knows. Maybe you'll find what you're looking for in this town." Mike cocked an eyebrow.

"What do you mean?" Tom sighed. It was obvious the only reason Mike travelled with the troup was in search of something but no one knew what.

"Mike please...you know you can tell me." Mike sighed. He did know that. In the five years Tom had been like a father to him but he couldn't bring himself to tell the male the truth. That every town he came to he searched for a way to be with Chester who had most likely forgotten him.

"Maybe someday...but not today." Tom nodded as the youth tried again to set up his tent. It collapsed a second time causing the older traveller to search through his pocket.

"Here." He handed Mike some coins. "I saw an inn on the way into the village. Why don't you stay there for a night? Take a little break." Mike stared, wide eyed at the money.

"T-Thomas...I couldn't."

"Sure you could." Tom smiled, patting his shoulder before walking away. Mike smiled and left his tent on the ground, abandoned as he looked forward to a real bed. Something he rarely now experienced.

~*~*~*~

Mike bought some cold ale that night in the bar of the inn. He sat by a large log fire, listening to idle chit chat of the townsfolk.

"I saw him last night." One said to the other. "I saw him I did. Creeping around Hegerty's field."

"I'd swear he's why Johanna's girl went missing." An older woman joined in, nodding her head, agreeing with herself. Mike looked to the small group, interested in hearing more.

"I thought I would die." The first speaker, an old man stated. "I thought he'd bite me and I'd be a gonner." Mike moved forward, standing over the group.

"Excused me." He stated as they looked to him. "I couldn't help overhear...are you talking about a vampire?" The woman nodded.

"Draven they calls him." She nodded. "He's been haunting this here village for aeons." Mike nodded as she leaned close. "Why's you interested?"

"Oh...no reason. Sorry for disrupting you." Mike smiled and moved back to his seat by the fire. He grinned broadly to himself and looked into the flames. Tom might be right. Maybe he would find something here.

~*~*~*~

Chester looked at the female in shock, unable to comprehend what he had just heard.

"I-I can't, I'm sorry.  That's impossible."

"What do you mean exactly?"

"The reason I came here...was to find a way to become human again, and there is no way I can take over a coven!"

"Human? Why would you want to become human?"

"There is this human I fell for," Chester whispered, glancing around at the others who had surrounded them, "a few years ago..but we had to part ways, and I'm looking for a way that I could be with him, without having to worry about having to watch him die."

"Why not simply change the human?" One of the girls asked, "It is far easier then trying to become human again yourself."

"I couldn't ask him to do that for me," Chester explained, "I couldn't do that to anyone!  Not after what I had to go through when I was first changed."

There was a collective gasp among the vampires.

"Him?!" One of them yelled out, "You fell for a male?"

"Yes I did, which is another reason I could never take over the coven, I couldn't bring myself to even be with another, not when I know he's waiting for me."

The woman whispered amongst themselves then came to a decision.

"We will help you find this human, and we will do our best to figure out how to help you become mortal again," one of the older woman spoke up, while the others nodded in agreement.

Chester grinned and started to talk to them about a way to possibly track down Mike, after, of course, he found out how to be mortal again.

~*~*~*~

Mike sat outside the inn that night. The air from the ocean nearby woke him, light spray occasionally brushing across his features. He liked this village. close to the sea, nice smelling air. Maybe one day he could reside here for the latter years of his life, hopefully with Chester by his side.

Again he wondered about the male. Was he well, did he still look breathtaking, was he with Rob? So many questions.

As Mike thought he heard it. The light crunch of bare foot on graven. In the distance a shadowed figure skulked in the shadows, quietly. But even after years of retirement Mike was better, faster and more silent.

"AH!" The daemon cried when Mike's arm strongly wrapped around his neck. He tried to fight the mortal off but Mike kept his grip.

"One sure way to kill your kind?" Mike whispered in his ear. "Break their neck or cut their head off. I can do that in one movement unless you stop struggling." Mike smiled, even without his weapons he had them at his mercy. The youth stopped, breathing heavily.

"W-what do you want with me?" Draven asked. Mike's grip loosened.

"I'm going to let you go ok? Don't run, don't attack and you won't get hurt." The youth nodded, telling Mike he understood. Soon Mike withdrew his arms, allowing the youth gasps for breath. "Now Draven..." The youth looked up and Mike's heart softened. He looked so young. Definitely only about fifteen when transformed. "Don't look so scared...I just want to talk." The kneeling vampire eyed him suspiciously as Mike sat on the road beside him. everything was silent for a painful amount of time from them and the village. Draven spoke.

"What do you have to talk to me about?" He asked. "You're human and I'm...a beast!" Draven was gazing at his hands in almost fear. "I know you probably don't believe me..."

"I do." Mike nodded. "I know not all vampires should be painted with the one brush and if you say you feel bad for what you do then who am I to judge." Mike smiled slightly. "Draven you're so young."

"Sixteen thousand years old almost." Draven smiled. "You'd have no idea the changes I've seen in the world. In retrospect I should be worm food but that's the beauty of it all. Never aging. I'll always be a kid despite all I've seen in my life." Mike sighed, sensing the resentment in Draven's voice.

"Draven...I've been searching for something. A way for...well for me to be with a vampire." Mike looked to him. "I've been looking for five years and what's odd is I don't even know what I'm looking for."

"Was she that special?" Draven asked. "For you to look for so long?" Mike laughed lightly.

"She wasn't...but he was." Dravens eyes widened. "Listen...you...resent being undead?" Draven nodded. "do you know how it is a vampire becomes human?"

"Do you think if I did I'd be here now?" Draven asked. "I'd be at peace with my mother, father and sister. Not wandering this town hoping for a stray animal to feed on." Mike sighed and leaned back on his palms. Draven couldn't tear his eyes from this male. He raised a hand to Mike's face, gently coaxing their eyes to meet. "How much do you want to be with him?"

~*~*~*~

After talking with the women for a few hours Chester excused himself when Lana came and told him that the elder was ready to see him.

He followed her down the hallway, looking at the different paintings hanging on the walls.  They were all of the elders who had either died or disappeared throughout the years.  Some of them were so old the name plates were rusted, causing the names to become unreadable.

Lana stopped in front of a pair of huge, antique double doors that were completely made out of metal and wood.

"He is in here," Lana said then stepped aside, "He wishes to meet with you alone.  I will be downstairs with the others if you need me."

Chester watched her walk off and slowly pushed open the doors.  They were heavier then they looked.  The doors opened to reveal a large room, with statues.  Some of them were cracked and falling apart, though there was a newer one standing closest to the door.  When he looked closer Chester saw that it was, to his shock, a vampire who looked a lot like himself.

"That's my son," a voice came from behind Chester causing him to look over his shoulder.  An older man, with graying brown hair and kind eyes stood there in a slightly hunched position.

"Oh..I'm sorry for your loss," he said while stepping away from the statue.

"It is alright my son, I have come to accept the fact that he is gone.  Now, what is it you came here to talk to me about?"

Chester followed the elder and sat down in front of the desk that the elder sat behind.

"I was actually..wondering if you knew how a vampire could become human."

The elder watched Chester closely before answering, "I have heard a few cases where a vampire has become human after choosing to be with the one they love.  But I do not know of a way that it could happen.  I could research it but it might take awhile."

"Oh..well at least you've heard of it, the other elders I've visited throughout the years had never even heard of it before."

The elder smiled softly and nodded, "It is a practice that has not been in use for many years, but I believe I have read of it before in a book that is in my library.  You are free to go in there and research it yourself if you wish."

"Thank you so much!" Chester said with a grin.

"It is really no problem at all."

Chester thanked the elder once again then left the study to head towards the library to start researching.  The sooner he started, the sooner he could finally be with Mike.

~*~*~*~

"So much!" Mike replied, fighting back tears. "I want to be with him so much!" He didn't even notice Draven drawing closer until the youth's face was close to his own.

"How would you feel...living by his side for eternity?" Draven spoke in little more than a whisper now. Mike nodded.

"Anything to be with him."

"I can make that happen." Mike looked to the youth who was now sniffing the air around the dark haired human. "Did anyone ever tell you how amazing you smelt?" Mike nodded, a tear trickling down his cheek. Chester would tell him that. How clear Mike remembered it, as if it was yesterday. Draven saw the tear and hushed the mortal. "You can be with him soon." The vampire muttered.

Mike flinched once he felt the ghostly breath on his neck. He jumped away.

"No! No! I'm sorry. I thought I could but I can't." He buried his face in his hands. "I'm a coward." Draven sighed and shook his head.

"Shhh. No you're not. Believe me when I say that very few vampires wanted to become who they are. I would have been impressed if you could go through with it."

"B-but what if it's the only way I can be with him?" Mike sobbed. "What if it is and I'm too fucking scared to do it?" Mike collapsed on the gravel again, tears flowing freely now. Draven drew close again and rubbed Mike's shoulder.

"I'm sorry." He muttered, leaning forward and kissing Mike's lips lightly.

"Why d-does everyone keep doing that today?" Mike hiccuped as the youth pulled away, smiling and shrugged.

"I don't know...but if this vampire wants to be with you then you should be together. I understand that you'll die but surely a few years with someone you love is better than not being with them at all." Draven suddenly fell back into the shadows leaving a very confused and lonely Mike in the middle of the deserted street. Wrapping his arms around him for warmth, Mike looked up at the red, harvest moon and sighed loudly.

"I miss you so much Chester!"
