The night is cold but the sun will rise by ninja

It all started with a random kiss in a car after a party both had attended. Since then, they went from friends and bandmates to boyfriends.

They do love each other, but when one begins to ignore the other in the middle of a recording session, it makes the one ignored doubtful, he tries to find out what’s wrong, to make himself loveable, but his lover simply doesn’t care anymore.

He’s left feeling like being part of the house decoration and begins to wonder if they should end their relationship.

More than once has he made dinner for him to end being leftover he’ll eat later during the week because the other either doesn’t show up, or is too tired to eat. And when he does take a bite, they eat in complete silence. At first the guitarist was trying to make conversations but slowly stopped as he realised his boyfriend wasn’t willing to talk.

They are now done with the album and are going on tour. It’s been almost 4 month since they’ve had real quality time together and Brad is fed up. He knows none of them have plans tonight, therefore, asks the emcee to come home early for diner, to which he agrees.

But things don’t always go as planned.

Brad has been waiting for Mike to show up for the last 20 minutes. He had promised he’d be there by 8pm and he hasn’t showed up or texted him.

He calls Chester, who lets him know he went out with some people and he can’t stop himself from letting his frustration go on the vocalist who offers him to come by and eat the dinner he prepared.

He’s there 40 minutes later and needs to comfort his friend who had put much effort in making something really nice and romantic and have his plan thrown away like that.

“It’s delicious” says Chester

“Thanks” says Brad, with a small voice

“I’m sorry that your original plan failed. I’ll talk to him okay, kick his ass”

“I asked him this morning if he had plans, he said no, so I told him we could have dinner together to which he agreed. Then I left early, telling him to be home by 8pm, and he simply forgets?”

“I didn’t know you had planned something, I would’ve made sure he’d be there on time if I had”

“I know” he says, smiling

“Finally a smile” cheers Chester

“I’m sorry for not being in the greatest mood” he apologises

“Don’t be. I totally get it.” Tries Chester again, wanting to comfort his friend

“What have I done wrong?”

“I’d say he’s the one at fault right now. You need to talk”

“I try, it’s never the right time”

Once they are done eating and talking, Chester asks if he’d like to do something else, but the guitarist isn’t feeling like it.

“I’ll just go sleep and hope for a miracle.” He says

“It was really good Brad, don’t ever doubt that you’re a bad boyfriend okay?”

“Thank you” he says, pulling him into a hug.

He decides to go sleep in one of his spare rooms and the next morning, he’s pretty sure Mike didn’t even try to find out where he was. He wakes him up and asks him about last night, quite determined to show him how mad he is.

“Where were you?!”

“Out with friends”

“We had a date Michael‼”

“This was important!”

“More important than me?! We haven’t done anything together in ages!”

“The world isn’t going around you Brad!”

“Stop making it like it’s my fault, you could have told me!”

“I’m sorry okay‼” he yells

“I’m tired of this Mike! What have I done?” asks the guitarist, exasperated

“Everything’s fine!”

“You don’t even look at me anymore! You don’t care about me and you only talk to me when talked to or when you’re pissed off.”

“Stop it now”

“Why? Because you can’t face the truth?” spits the guitarist

“I’m sorry I didn’t come last night” he sighs

“Whoa, what an apology” he says, sarcastically “You know what?! We’re done. I’m leaving you.”

“You can’t”

“I’m an adult, I’m pretty sure I can do what I want.”

“What about the fact that we’re in a band together.”

“Is that the only reason you’re still with me?!”

He stares at him in silent not knowing what to say

“I can’t believe this.” Says the guitarist before picking up one last bag

“We can’t do that to the band”

“It will work out.” He says, heading to the door

“Where are you going?”

“I don’t know, far away from you.”

“We’re leaving in two days” He says, as a matter of fact.

“I know, I’ll be there.” Answers Brad

He packs his stuff in the car and leaves for Chester’s place, being the closest to theirs. He stays there until the beginning of the tour and has no idea how things are going to work out.

Once the tour starts, they ignore each other. The rest of the band and crew are aware of what happened and make their best to make their two friends comfortable. Their relationship not being public, they act like nothing happened when in front of cameras.

One evening though, Mike decides to go talk to Brad, he goes to the guitarist’s room who let him in.

“What do you want?” Asks Brad

“I wanted to apologise, for everything” He says, and does. Brad let him talk and listens because as much as he’s hurt, he still loves him.

“I thought you loved me” Says Brad, looking away from him.

“I love you, I know I fucked up and I’m really sorry” Answers Mike, wanting to grab his hand but knows it wouldn’t be a great idea

“If you say so”

“Is there any way we can make us work again?”

“I’m not the one who should be asked that.”

“Right, I know, I phrased it wrong. I… If you’re willing on giving me a second chance, I will do everything in my power to show you I care and love you”

“I don’t know, I’d like to think about it”

“So it’s not a no?” He asks, hopeful

“If it had, I would have said it. Let me think about it.” Repeats the guitarist.

“Thank you” says Mike, pulling him into a hug that he doesn’t return.

3 days later, after intense discussions with Dave and Chester, he agrees on going out with him. Which means tonight they will go out for dinner and Mike knows he has to make everything perfect. The evening in itself goes fine. They had a good time and both feel like things can eventually be okay.

Their band members, curious as always, waited for them to return and decided to spy on them only to discover that they are not spending the night together. Chester and Rob ask Brad while Dave and Joe go ask Mike.

Both of them ask if they were spying on them to what they are answered that it’s obvious. The two ex lovers shake their head in disbelief, quite amused before shutting their doors to their friend’s faces.

The day after, he talks with Dave about the night prior and he’s much less enthusiastic than Mike.

“I accepted because I was tired of seeing him crushed and I was scared about the future of the band. Now I did have a good time. But what if it’s good now and he goes back into ignoring me?”

“I don’t know, but you can’t know if you don’t try”

“Yeah, I guess.”

“We will make sure he stays nice and caring”

“It feels like everyone feels sorry for Mike but what about me? No one asks how I feel or about my reasons. I didn’t break up with him out of the blue you know”

“Of course we do. It’s your choice and if people say nasty stuff, come to us. We’ll make sure they stop”

“I don’t feel ready to be back in an actual relationship with him yet.”

“That understandable, but you should tell him, let him know where you stand. I believe the problem between you two, or one of them, was the lack of communication. Both of you thinking the other will read your mind.”

“You’re right.”

“Do you love him?”

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me.”

“I… Of course I love him. That doesn’t mean I’m going to jump back in his arms now because he realised he screwed up.”

As the tour goes, Brad realises that even his friends wants him to be back with Mike. Things were easier back then when the emcee would throw his frustration at Brad and not everyone else. The guitarist has always been patient with him and they know it. He would just let him talk it out and then they would make out. So what about now?

Brad doesn’t know if Mike is only playing nice to gain him back or if he really changed for the best. He doesn’t want to be the one who has to take all in. Of course, he’s learned to build some walls when Mike would be angry, he knows his anger not directly toward but he doesn’t want to be yelled at anymore.

And then one time, the management screws up and they need to share a room because they didn’t have any more available or maybe it was made up, he doesn’t know, but now, he finds himself sharing a room with his ex-boyfriend and he feels betrayed by everyone. They could at least have asked him if he was okay with it before handing him the key, telling him he’s rooming with Mike.

It’s been 10 minutes since he’s in the room and he already feels like he’s going to explode. He asks Mike if it’s made up but the emcee says that if it is, he doesn’t know about it. He doesn’t totally believe him and heads out to the bathroom to take a shower, the only place he can be alone now. Just before, Mike offers to go out for dinner. He refuses but accepts to watch a movie with him and order take out.

After the movie, Brad says he’s tired and decides to sleep, Mike follows him. But they keep talking in the dark, mainly about them. They end up being way to close and eventually their heads bump together. Both feels the other’s breath and eventually, their lips meet. Mike initiate a kiss but it takes a few seconds for him to realise Brad isn’t willing on responding to it. He stops and apologises before the guitarists turns around and ignores him to fall asleep.

The next morning, Mike talks to Chester in the dressing room about the night before. He asks if them sharing a room was a made up. Tells him the guitarist doesn’t want him anymore and that they kissed and shouldn’t have. Chester confess that when they learned that the management didn’t manage to get another room, they let it go, hoping they would talk. The singer also reminds him to be patient and give the guitarist time. But as they kept talking, Brad overheard part of the conversation and he is furious to hear them talking about his private life in a dressing room before a show where anyone could hear them.

Mike tries to explain that he didn’t say anything bad but Brad wants him to leave him alone and he leaves them, to go isolate himself.

Both are now in two different bathrooms letting their frustration out on the walls. One is tired of being pressured to talk to Mike and asked to give him a second chance all the time. The other for feeling like everything he does fail. Their lives are fucked up and none of them knows how to fix them.

Dave finds Brad sitting against the wall, head on his knees, sobbing. All he can do is trying to comfort him but he’s pushed away. He sits down on the other side of the bathroom floor and waits there until his friend is willing on acknowledging him and talks.

“I don’t know what to do.” He says, after a while

“What happened?”

“I was about to enter the dressing room when I heard Mike and Chester talking, I learned that one: my friends tried to set me up with my ex, and two that my so called ex talks about what we did with Chester” He listed

“It wasn’t a set up Brad, they didn’t manage to get another room so we thought that maybe it would make the two of you talk privately.”

“We did talk; we spent the whole evening together.”

“How did it go?”

“I told him not to touch me and he kissed me.” He tells, to which Dave can’t help but smile “It’s not funny”

“I’m not laughing. Why did he think it’d be okay to kiss you?”

“We switched off the lights after the movie and then talked in the dark. Somehow we found each other quite close and he kissed me. When I didn’t respond to it, he stopped, apologised and I turned around to sleep.”

“Okay, at least your versions are the same.”

“You talked to him before me? Why is he always coming first?!” he asks, exasperated

“No, Chester told us what happened, he went to talk to him and I came to check on you”

“Oh”

“Do you really think we’re all on Mike’s side and only care about his wellbeing and not yours?”

“Yes” he whispers

“I’m sorry if we made it feel like it. I can assure you that it’s not the case.”

“You’re ignoring me and my feelings ever since I agreed on going on that date.”

“What?”

“Everyone wants me to be back with him and say he’s all sad, they are tired of being subjects of his tantrums, but what about me and how I feel? I was left out for months before we broke up. It wasn’t fun to go from boyfriend to decoration in the room. But I guess no one cares about this part.”

“You never said anything either. We didn’t know things weren’t fine before you broke up.”

“I wanted things to be okay, I tried to make myself seen but he didn’t care. And now, it feels like I’m the one who should make efforts”

“Have you told Mike that?”

“Yes, yesterday. I mean, he did apologise for everything but I don’t know… I tried to talk to him for month, to figure out what was wrong, if I had done or said something but I never managed to get anything from him”

“So the question you need to ask yourself is, do you want to be back with him or not. He needs to be honest with you and make efforts, but you need to be honest about what you want too.”

“I don’t know if I want to be back with him, that’s the problem. I love him but I’m also still mad at him. We’ve been talking, he knows what I’m mad about. And we talked about what we reproached the other but why he didn’t tell me earlier, that, I don’t know.”

“He loves you too. And he apologised, that something”

“I miss him you know, I didn’t want to break up with him but what was I supposed to do?”

“I would never blame you for this. You did what you thought was best for you.”

“Thanks”

“You’re my best friend; you can always come to me. And I’m sorry if we made you feel like we were all against you.” He says, standing up to approach the guitarist and gives him a hand to help him stand up. “Are you ready to join the others?”

“I guess” he says, accepting to get up.

“You will be okay” says Dave, pulling him into a hug.

*Same time, Mike and Chester*

“I’m tired of this.”

“Come on, we didn’t say anything bad. Dave is talking to him.”

“I wish I had listen to him month ago when he started to ask questions. But I was too busy with the album and I don’t know, I didn’t take time for him.”

“That’s a bad excuse though, we were all busy.”

“I know, but I never meant to ignore him.”

“He’s aware of that, but he’s hurt. You’re doing great things now but show him it will last. That might be what he’s scared of. You being good now and then ignore him again.”

“But I won’t.”

“He doesn’t know that.”

“He doesn’t trust me anymore.”

“His trust in you is, indeed, probably broken, but it doesn’t mean it can’t be repaired. He’s forgiving; I don’t think he wants to throw away years of friendship and romance like that.”

“You think so?”

“Yes, I don’t want to give you false hopes but I do think so.”

A few days later, they have an off day and the band, except Brad meets. It raises questions and Mike can’t help but be jealous. He wants to know who the guitarist went out with but no one seems to know. They don’t see him for the whole day and the next morning, Mike goes knock on his door to find out what happened.

“I was meeting a friend.” He says, casually

“You have friends here?” regarding the fact they are on tour

“Yes. Why are you asking so many questions? I’m allowed to have a life outside of the band.”

“We were concerned.”

“I had told Jim where I was. But told him to keep it for himself!”

“You could have told one of us!”

“Jeez Mike, what’s your problem?”

“I was hoping for you to hang out with us yesterday”

“Well, I had other plans. The world doesn’t go only around you”

“You wanted us to spend more time together, and now you don’t!” He yells at him

“We broke up Mike! Remember?” He yells back

“You broke up with me!” points Mike out

“The result is the same! You ignored me for month and now you think everything is going to settle itself just by showing some interest in me again! You want me back but have you been asking yourself about what I wanted?”

“You gave me a second chance!”

“No! I agreed on one night out together! Then everyone made assumptions and now I’m supposed to play nice and be back with you!”

“Haven’t I showed you that I love you?”

“Are you saying I don’t?”

“No!”

“Then what are you saying?”

“I want you to trust me!”

“I love you Mike, but I don’t know how to trust you.”

“Let me show you, please.” He pleads, approaching him more, and strike his hand

“You hurt me.”

“And I won’t stop apologising for that.”

“I miss you, I miss us.” He whispers, getting in the singers arms

“I don’t want us to fight anymore” Says Mike, hugging the guitarist

“Me neither.” He says, hugging him tighter and putting his face on his neck

“I miss you so much.” Whispers Mike, once they look at each other and he dares caressing the guitarist's chin.

“I love you so much” he says before leaning for a kiss, not caring anymore about everything he’s been angry at. And Mike happily answers, letting it be a hot and needy kiss. “I don’t know if we can still work, but we can try.” he adds, holding him tightly

They soon find each other making out on the bed until the hear knocks on the door from the guys telling them they’re late and need to leave. They look at each other, embarassed but also smiling, picking up Brad’s bag and get out of the room before kissing one last time.

“Were we disturbing?” grins Chester

“Shut up Ches.” Says Brad, blushing.

“Your happiness is all that matters” reminds him the singer, putting an arm on his shoulders and kissing his cheek.

“I know” he says, smiling as Mike grabs his hand, interlocking their fingers together. And all of them leave for the tour bus, smiling.
