The Coldest Winter by BichosDaFazenda

Finally.

Disclaimer: Dont own them, don't sue.

I still can't believe I wrote this. Its crap, honestly.

***********************************************

I will always remember the weather. It’s a cold, mortifying breeze that embraces the streets of Arizona, leaving its habitants restless and agitated, since it had been so long since they experienced such temperatures. Most of them would hide on the comfortless of their homes, along with their love ones, enjoying the warmth it provided, such safeness shouldn’t be wasted away and it was the perfect opportunity to enjoy it as it’s fullest.

Yes, it’s a winter day, the coldest of them all.

Of course, I had to break that rule from the rest of the people, as I stood beside the train lines, waiting for my own opportunity to show up itself, with only one small, insignificant bag which is holding all my personal belongings, as well precious memories I retained from this place, my birth place.

I stand alone, like I did most of my past life time, with no one to hold, no one who could support me whatsoever, as I pursued my dreams and aspirations since I was a little boy. I’ve always wanted to make something with myself; I always fought my entire life for things I most desired, and this time was no different, I was going to be someone respected, someone admired for his true talent, someone who could show to other people that life isn’t always hard, that you just have to keep some faith and hope inside your body and soul, so you can end up being satisfied with the way you turned out, and not let that misery bring you down. Inspiring other people.

Yes, that does sound good.

No matter if you’re alone, you can overcome your obstacles, the one who keep you from having the life you always wanted. The life who allowed you to escape from your childhood, the one who keep you believing and fighting so you wouldn’t leave this world, unaccomplished.

That’s what I want, forget about the past. Erase it and make space for the bright future that’s ahead of me; yes, that’s all I’ve ever wanted.

“Chester?”

I heard someone whispering my name, ever so gently, behind me, it almost seemed like the wind was trying to communicate with me. It didn’t sound like a human’s voice, it was so calm and almost apologetic…

“Please don’t go.” The voice insisted, although now with a hint of sadness and desperation. “I don’t know what I would do without you here.”

I close my eyes, to prevent tears from falling.

“I have to move on, you know that.”

“Yes, it’s your dream, I understand. I don’t want to stop you, you more than other people have the right to be happy and you deserve that kind of happiness.”

I just know there’s a ‘but’ in all that, so I started shaking uncontrollably.

“… There’s nothing I wanted more than see you happy. I still remember when your eyes glint for the first time, your face brightened as soon as you started to read that letter… It just made me evaluate what we have, well; it isn’t the fairy tale I wanted it to be. And it did upset me, knowing that I wasn’t the source of your happiness.”

It’s not fair, I thought. Why did he have to come?

“But I guess I’m selfish, I guess. I came because I didn’t want you to go, and maybe convince you to come home with me.”

I took a step back, and locked my eyes with his. They were blurry and I couldn’t see straight but I know he was smiling. It was a sad smile, I could tell, a smile that gave away what his true intentions are now. I tried to express how I felt, maybe I needed to apologize and tell him that maybe I should’ve been a better companion, more supportive or talkative, even; although I couldn’t, my mouth wouldn’t allow it, I was completely frozen in my own thoughts.

“I know what you’re thinking; you think the reason for our unhappiness is because you did something wrong, or didn’t act the way you should.”

He slowly started moving towards me, breaking our distance, with cautious so I wouldn’t cry even more. Ever so gently, he place both his hands on his side of my face, making me face him, as he wiped my tears away, and for the first time I could see the love and caring that he held for me all these years, but didn’t always showed. At that time, all my doubts were forgotten and washed away, he truly love me.

He whispered again, in result on making my body shiver, more than any icy wind could do. “You’re wrong. You didn’t screw up anything, I did. It was all my fault, I realize it now. You always deserved better, someone caring and protective, someone who would cherish you the way you always needed but never had. Who am I to delay your own life; I want nothing more than see you happy and accomplished, I won’t be the one stopping that beautiful smile of yours.” He smiled, this time content, and I couldn’t help but to do the same. It felt good this kind of support coming from him, something he never did. I finally felt complete, this little moment of ours made me realized that I could in fact be loved by someone, and that maybe not everything is doomed for me.

We both looked like a real couple and people walked by us, with indignant stares, along with a complete look of despise on their faces, but we didn’t care. This should’ve had happen a long time ago, and then maybe I wouldn’t have to leave, if I knew what this type of emotions felt like. But it was too late now.

He noticed my sudden change, as my body started to tense. Instead he smiled, and held me close against him, whispering ‘I’m sorry, I hope you can forgive me someday’ through my ears, and I couldn’t help but to start slowly sobbing against his warm body, desperately grabbing his coat for some support, as he rubbed my back in a such caring movement that I never experienced before. It was such an unknown feeling; for actually someone to give a crap about me, for someone who actually take the time to look for me and begging me for forgiveness, while holding me like the world was about to end in that moment.

Made me feel like a regular person, a common mortal.

It was the best feeling in the world.

It’s definitely the coldest day of the year, temperatures below zero, who could froze the entire city in a heartbeat.

Although my heart couldn’t be any warmer.
