doesn't have to be afraid

Do you know what Mike Shinoda is afraid of?

Those who know him think he is a brave man, just like his boyfriend Chester. Ah, yes, these two got married two months ago, and now they are a couple.

But, what is Mike afraid of?

In fact, their friends are well aware that Chester Bennington is always fragile and sick, and most because of his miserable childhood and rakish, dissolute adolescence. He gets ill almost every month, sometimes even has to be hospitalized. The worst part is, he’d get himself hurt every year, seems he forgets that he is a bad-lucky guy all the time.

Therefore, Mike is afraid that maybe someday his beloved Chaz would go to heaven before him, and left himself alone in this world.

This only thought almost drives him crazy.

Mike himself, likes to surf the internet. Like everyone knows, as a workaholic, he likes to make some new beats though the band is taking a break. Well, in the hiatuses, he’d browse Youtube and update his blog, if Chester with all means fails to drag that lazy ass out of their front door. So when they spend the night home, after dinner Chester would curl up on the sofa and watch TV, with some popcorn and a cup of orange juice.

Let the clock move slowly. When night falls deeper, Chester turns off the TV then up to his studio to kiss him goodnight.

‘honey, I’m going to bed.’

Mike nods carelessly, which means, implicitly, that he still needs to hang on the net for a little while.

Thus, Chester leaves the studio room and takes those dirty popcorn dishes to kitchen then cleans them all up, dries them, and puts them in back on the cupboard. Unfreezes the beef ribs he’ll prepare for tomorrow’s dinner, checks out how much every sorts of flavorings and oatmeal there’s left, and pours the coffee beans for breakfast into the mill and refills it.

He throws several pieces of wet clothes into the dryer, then gathers the dirty clothes discarded everywhere in the room into the basket, throws them in the washing machine, irons all his nice shirts and Mike’s Tees, and hangs them in the closet.

Then back to the living room, he stacks the newspapers, packs the scattered puzzle cards on the table, coves the cookie box and settles it below, puts the cell phone in charge and the phone book back in the drawer.

Chester yawns, steps into the bedroom while stretching.

He sits down at the desk, turns on the lamp, and starts to list on the notes. He likes to draw in pencil. The list he is working on is the stuff for the picnic that Mike and he scheduled for the weekend with some friends. After several times sifting and adding, then finally figures out the total amount of that pocket money, in fact, that’s a tough task for Chester. After that, he texts a few messages to Ryan and Chris separately, though Mike is not happy with that, Chester accepts it as doing secretly, well yeah, nothing special, definitely they are normal friends, and no way there is any secret Mike needs to be worried about.

He writes a birthday card for his brother that he’s going to send over the traditional mail tomorrow, you know, vintage is stylish now. Then he makes a list of what he’d need for shopping.

After all this, he goes to the bathroom to have a face washing, rubs on some night cream, brushes his teeth, cleans them with dental floss, then grinds his nails with his nail file while sitting on a small mat.

Mike checks the time on his computer, yells, ‘I guess you need to go to bed, Chesta, don’t forget you still have a cold.’

‘Just a minute! Damn it!’ Chester replies louder.

After grinding nails, Chester heads to the backyard, refills their four dogs’ dishes with water and food. He makes sure the front and rear door and windows are locked well, and the lights in the yard are off too when he goes back inside the house. On the half way to his bedroom, he stops a while to take a look at the photos of his sons who now live with their mother. He tells himself that he’ll be able to visit the two of them in another two weeks, and then he laughs.

Back to their bedroom, Chester picks out the clothes he’s going to wear tomorrow from the closet, the matching shoes and socks as well, and he does the same thing for Mike. Lastly, he adds something on the meme, humming some tunes. Before climbing into the bed, he symbolically does the cross in the chest, imagining all the crazy, hot stuff they’ll play. He pats their super-flexible bed and the new sheets he just changed.

While Mike turns off the computer, steps into the bedroom and looks at Chester helplessly, saying, ’I’m gonna sleep.’

Chester chuckles, unties the ribbon of his pajamas and throws himself into the bed.

Actually he has nothing to be afraid of, Mike thinks, Chester was born to be like this, he won’t leave this world too soon. There are a whole lot of things he loves to be engaged into, the things they both love to do.
