Between my pride and my promise by Bekka-the-bennoda-slut

What i've done

The veil of rain fell as if the grey sky itself was weeping in heartache. The fog lingered like a thick blanket over the frosty evening lake and small, plentiful drops of rain fell like tears along the cold bus window.

Chester Bennington rested his head against the pane of glass and sighed, closing his eyes.

‘What do you mean you’re divorcing me?’ The memory of his wife Talinda’s shrill and tearful voice was still ringing in his ears. ‘Just…why?’ Her face was so vivid in his minds eye. The abundance of tears turned her usually flawless features red and puffy.

Why was it that he couldn’t remember his reaction? What had he said or done? Did he do anything? Was he so overcome by shame?

‘Its someone else isn’t it?’ Talinda had insisted. Yes it was someone else, he hadn’t told her who though. He hadn’t been able to bring himself to.

Still Talinda’s face burned in his memories. Her eyes so red and her voice so hoarse from begging him to stay. If not for her then for their family. She even resorted to threatening him with legal action but he knew she wouldn’t. Chester was a fantastic father and even Talinda knew that.

As he thought a tall male walked slowly over to him and sat on the chair across from him. Mike Shinoda leaned across the table that separated them and smiled knowingly at Chester, his gaze understanding.

‘Are you ok?’ Chester looked up and smiled at Mike.

‘Yeah.’ his voice was faint and failed him. He had hoped to sound stronger but he simply couldn’t. Mike rested a hand on Chester’s and leaned even further over the table.

‘Everything’s going to be ok.’ Mike promised, kissing Chester’s hand. ‘You’ll see.’

‘I know.’ Chester smiled half-heartedly and looked out the window of the bus again. He lost himself in the curtain of rain that sheathed the harsh city landscape.

Of course he hadn’t told Talinda who. How could he? Although he knew one thing for sure, it hadn’t been out of shame.
