~~*A Little Pain Never Hurt Anyone*~~

~~*~~*~~*Chapter 1*~~*~~*~~*~~

“Fuck.”

Robert Bourdon’s life has never been so great. But when he met his step mom, Gail, his life took a dramatic downfall.

“I HATE her! HATE HER! Fucking hell…” Rob muttered to himself as he wiped his face of the blood Gail had drawn from him when she beat him down for the third time this week.

His father was out of town again on business, and has no idea of what his wife does to his son. Or to any of his children.

Gail is an alcoholic, and when she is drunk, she takes her anger out on her step children, Phil the oldest, who is a high school senior, Sara, who is in the third grade, and of course, Rob, a year younger than Phil. But she doesn’t hurt any of them worse than she does Rob.

As of just half an hour ago, she had been drunk again. When Rob had come home from school, she began by screeching about how he dressed like a bum, and never deserved to live in a house such as theirs. Then she followed that by pushing him against the wall, grabbing an umbrella, and beating him with it.

Now, he is in his room, where he feels the safest. That room is his sanctuary. To him, its as if Gail can never bother him once he’s in there.

He sat at his desk, and rubbed his cheek, where she ended the taunting with a hard slap. “God damn her…I fucking hate my life…” He muttered to himself. He started his homework, and finished it half an hour later, and was left with nothing to do. So, he decided to go out.

On his way out of the house, he walked into Phil, who had just gotten home from working at the local CVS.

“Hey Rob. Whoa what happened to your face? Oh wait, don’t tell me. Gail again, huh?”

“Yeah what else is new. Is it that noticeable?”

“Yeah, but I just bought something that’ll help cover it up. I saw it at the pharmacy, and I figured it’ll be good for us with Gail around.” Phil pulled Rob back upstairs to his room. He opened up his book bag and pulled out a plastic CVS bag. From there he pulled out a tube of concealer. He dabbed some of it on Rob’s face, an rubbed it in as softly as possible, so as not to hurt him.

“There. Finished. No one will ever know.” Phil said proudly.

Rob looked in the mirror and sighed. Phil was right. No one would ever know. “Thanks Phil. You’re the best!”

“Oh I know.” Phil grinned, and pushed Rob out the door, telling him not to drink too much.

Rob chuckled after he heard that. They all knew that Rob never touched alcohol. He hated it with a passion.

He walked out the door, passing a snoring Gail, and walked towards the Pizza Parlor, where two if his best friends, Dave and Mike, worked. He walked in, and saw that Mike was at the register putting in someone’s money, and Dave was taking orders at a table.

He waited for Mike to finish, and stepped up to the register, sitting on one of the stools that were situated around the counter.

“Hey Mike.”

“Hey Rob. Hey…” Mike squinted at him. “Your face looks kinda funny…like…off color, or something…” Then his eyes widened a bit, and he leaned in, whispering, “Did Gail hit you again?”

Rob nodded with a sour expression on his face.

“Oh man. Rob, you gotta tell someone about this.” He said quietly, so that no one would hear him. “you’re seriously gonna get hurt one of these days!”

“Right, and give Gail have more of a reason to beat me, and have my dad shun me cause he believes that Gail is the perfect woman? I don’t think so, Mike.”

Mike shook his head sadly, as he began to wipe the counter top.

Dave came by a second later, and said “Hey Rob! What’s up?”

“Eh, nothing, as usual.”

“Ooh fun.” Dave said sarcastically, as he put in the order he had taken.

“Yeah, you’re telling me.”

Mike chuckled at the sarcasm. “So, Rob, you ordering, or what?”

“Yeah, get me a coke.”

“Just a coke?” Dave asked.

“Yup.”

“Kay.” Dave pulled out a large cup, put only three pieces of ice (Rob always put just three), and filled it to the top with soda. “There ya go, Rob. That’s one sixty-two.”

Rob handed him the money, and sipped through the straw. Just as he placed his cup back down after the long sip, the door opened, creating a clicking-of-bells sound to resound through the room. Rob looked towards the front door, and spotted the man he’s had a crush on for ages. Yes, that’s right. A man.

“Hi, Mike. Hey Dave. ‘Sup Rob.” He said in a bored tone, and sat next to Rob at the counter. “Oh man, Mike. I have a huge-ass problem.”

“What happened?” Mike said worriedly, stopping his cleaning to look at his face.

“I wrote that 14 page paper for History, and I printed it out, put it in my folder so I don’t lose it, and lo and behold, I LOSE IT.” He said in a frustrated tone, putting his head in his hands.

“So go back home, and re-print it.” Mike said with an expression that spelled what’s-wrong-with-your-brain-you-dim-wit?

“Yeah, well, it turns out my computer had a memory problem. It fucking erased the whole fucking thing! FOURTEEN FUCKING PAGES! GONE!” He yelled, causing heads to turn.

“Shhh! Chester, come on, chill out! I’m sure Mr. Domwitty will understand.” Dave said, giving his shoulder a pat.

“Pshh…right. He’s a nutcase.”

“Yeah, you got that right…” Mike said with a chuckle. “Well, I guess you have no choice but to rewrite it.”

“REWRITE IT?! Fourteen pages? In two days? I’m gonna end up giving myself a fucking brain tumor!”

“Hey, Rob can help you.” Mike said, nodding towards Rob, who had been staring into his cup as he listened.

“Me?” Rob said, looking up at Mike with wide eyes. Ok. Mike knows about this crush of mine, sure. But now he’s obviously trying to torture me. Stupid prick…

“Yeah. Rob’s awesome in Mr. Ass-wipe’s class. He finished his paper in two days!” Dave interjected.

“Whoa, that’s incredible! Jesus, Rob, what are you, some kind of Super Genius or something?” Chester asked Rob with wide eyes and an admiring smile.

Rob couldn’t hide the pink tint that graced his features after he heard Chester say those things to him.

“I’d love it if you’d help me!” Chester said happily, practically bouncing in his chair.

“Ok, ok, I’ll help you. But we have to start right away.”

“Sure, sure, no problem! Hey, lets get started now! Huh? Lets go.” Chester grabbed Rob and stood up.

Rob had a mere second to grab his coke before he was practically dragged out of the parlor, with Mike waving his hands as an expression that said ‘Ha ha, you’re in for it now!’ was on his face.
